SOUTHERN LEDGE STONE; AN OBVIOUS FAUX STONE CHOICE FOR EXTERIORS
Southern Ledge Dakota Fog
Exterior stone siding, interior fireplace façade or large accent wall
The elegant bold shapes and textures of Southern Ledge stone make these faux stone veneers the obvious choice for grander scaled projects. While most often seen on exterior stone siding projects the large and irregular shaped textures of this rock will also compliment a larger interior fireplace façade and even an accent wall. A larger surface area gives the traditional stone patterns enough room to sit comfortably and create an authentic feel. It turns ordinary home exteriors into extraordinary representations of a more traditional architectural era.
Southern Ledge stone requires a bit more attention when planning
Larger stone veneer patterns like the ones found in Southern Ledge stone require a bit more attention when planning. The natural shapes which dominate the traditional school reflect a classic approach to home decor. They come from an era where using raw unmanufactured materials was the norm. With this comes a demand for space and attention on behalf of the Southern ledge stone. Remember to choose areas where there is enough wall surface or chimney structure to allow the texture of the material to look natural. The key to having an authentic design is to accurately emulate the organic layout of ledge stones.

Southern Ledge stone can be drystacked or installed with mortar joints
Ledge stone is typically heard in the same sentence as dry stacked. Southern Ledge stone can be dry stacked but also can be installed with mortar joints. The looks are different and both are esthetically pleasing. You might observe two walls side by side and both are showing Southern Ledge, one with mortar joints and the other dry stacked. Even if the stone colour is the same, they look so different that it may take some time to convince you that they are the same stone.
You can take it one step further and add some Fieldstone as spotters within the mix which bring a even more authentic feel. When stone masons used rocks of this size they were very often thicker and some more round thus the addition of Fieldstones would lend to the authentic look of the installation.
