Fieldstone is one of the first building stones used by the early settlers. They could gather them easily as they found them while preparing their land for crops. Fieldstones were stacked on top of each other then held in place with mortar. Many of these structures are still here today.
Stone veneer manufacturing has made creating the look of real Fieldstone easier to replicate for use on any interior or exterior project. Faux rock panels are lighter in weight than a full stone making it easier to install. Creating decorative stone veneers has also made adding stone to interior spaces easier for a homeowner to do it themselves. Accent walls and fireplace facades come to life with the addition of textured faux rock panels.
Tuscan Fieldstones are irregular shaped stone creating a rubble mix of rock with a jagged rough face. These faux rocks are flat on one side to allow the mason to adhere it to a flat vertical surface. A standard or overgrout mortar joint can then be applied to complete the illusion that these are full stones.
These faux rock panel stones are made to a thickness of up to two inches. The overall weight, before mortar is applied is close to ten pounds per square foot. Real natural fieldstone, even veneered would weigh close to one and a half times that amount. Faux rock is easier to install and has the added benefit of a variety of colour choices, a welcome addition to your home’s exterior facade.
Tuscan Fieldstone is great to pair with stucco and even other stone veneer styles. This faux rock siding is fully capable of holding down an aesthetic element by itself, however, sometimes is also great to get a little help from friends. Stucco has proven time and time again that it can be a great partner to fieldstone. The calm, muted tone of the stucco works well in balancing the accents of the fieldstone colours. Using these elements together on the exterior facade of your home will create a nice blend of cottage stone style harmony.
